Kafue thieves arrested as stolen vehicle mysteriously runs out of fuel

There was drama in Kafue when three suspected thieves were nabbed stealing household property from a house in Shikoswe on Tuesday night.

According to people who witnessed the unfolding, the suspects had just finished packing valuables in a vehicle but could not leave the area after the vehicle mysteriously ran out of fuel.

He said his attention was caught when the vehicle approached his home but stalled before it went past his gate, forcing occupants to alight and check the engine.

“They took a long time to troubleshoot the problem. They attempted to start it severally but to no success. The trio wondered how the car had run out of fuel yet they had refilled the tank with K 2700 for the mission,” said John who listened to the suspects from his bedroom window.

John called his neighbour and informed him of the motorists who were stuck outside his gate.

He requested him to accompany him to the gate so that they could give a helping hand to the travellers.

However, on calling his neighbour, John learnt that Gilbert had just been robbed.

The duo sent messages to neighbours and asked them to respond after being signalled.

“I had never seen this kind of a car in this area. I made a phone call to inform my neighbours of the strangers I saw outside. We headed to the gate and pretended to help them. After confirming that they were the thieves, we signalled neighbours who came and helped us apprehend the robbers,” John explained.

The suspects were later rescued from a savage beating unleashed on them by furry filled villagers who descended on them with clubs.

They had made away with a heater ,TV set, a fridge, two gas cookers and other cooking items.

Gilbert intimated that he had earlier contacted extremely powerful medicine man Dr Daniel who cushioned his property from being stolen.

He added that Dr Daniel was the reason why the vehicle, which had over 100 litres of fuel, had to stall.

It later emerged the car the assailants were using had also been stolen from a businessman in Lusaka.
