Kakabalika Community Care (KCC) has expressed deep concern over the reported cholera outbreak in some parts of the country.

Mpulungu, Kitwe, and Masaiti have already recorded confirmed cases of cholera, while Chongwe and Lusaka are also at high risk of being affected.

The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has since issued a public alert, urging members of the public experiencing diarrhoea or vomiting to seek immediate medical attention.

KCC Chairperson, Mr. Magwaza Cifire, has described the situation as worrying and has called on all stakeholders to adopt proactive measures to prevent the further spread of the disease.

He emphasized the need for heightened community alertness and strict adherence to preventive measures, noting that this is key to curbing the outbreak.

Mr. Cifire further stressed that the situation demands collective responsibility, particularly in ensuring the proper disposal of garbage at both household and community levels.

He warned that if cholera is not properly managed, it has the potential to negatively impact socio-economic development.

“As an organization, it is our responsibility to complement government efforts in raising awareness,” he said.

In this regard, KCC is particularly focused on ensuring that the people of Makeni and the surrounding areas of Chilanga District are sensitised and made fully aware of the risks, preventive measures, and community actions required to stop the spread of cholera.

Mr. Cifire has since appealed to the public to follow all established health guidelines to safeguard lives and protect communities.
