Kalombo warriors scoop Chebechebe Muchindu sports tournament

Kalombo warriors have been crowned champions for the 2025 Chebechebe – Salia memorial sports tournament held in Siamaluba village, Choma District in the Southern Province.

Meanwhile, it rained cash, trophies and soccer jerseys to all teams that took part in the two – weeks tournament courtesy of Muchindu.

21 football teams, both male and female from Siamaluba ward took part in the tournament.

The final match saw the visibly – physical – looking Kalombo warriors dominating play from the first whistle, and had their dominance pay off in the 35th minute when they found the back of the net.

The warriors continued with the same pressure in thesecondhalf, but were unable to get a second goal as Dam Dam City boys also kept on piling pressure hoping to get an equaliser.

This however did not happen as Warriors defense ensured total-football protection to their goalkeeper.

The game ended 1-0 in favor of warriors after an entertaining 90 minutes of football.

The winning team got a K3000 cash and a trophy, while the runners up walked away with a K2,500 cash prize.

Other participating teams in both categories walked away with cash prizes ranging from K2000 to K500 respectively.

Top 8 teams from the male category walked away with brand new pair of jerseys, and the same was given to female teams.

Tournament sponsor Joe Muchindu said the the tournament was held in an effort to promote sport development in rural Choma, an initiative locals commended.

Muchindu added that the aim is to expose players to the outside world.

Renowned sports commentator, Patrick Nyangulu alongside the author added flavour during the finals via an exciting commentary, much to the happiness of the huge spectators that thronged the venue.

Ward area councillor as well as various village headmen witnessed the event.

The ChebeChebe memorial sports tournament is held yearly in memory of Muchindu’s late parents.

It is considered as the biggest sporting event in the entire Choma District.
