Kamanga Police to be commissioned soon – Councillor
By Francis Chipalo
The newly constructed Kamanga Police post will soon be opened to the community as a response to security concerns in the area, ruling UPND Chakunkula Ward 32 Councillor Chimuka Njoomona has said.
And Njoomona says the police post’s location was a people’s decision through their zonal representatives.
This is contrary to Socialist Party (SP) Munali aspiring Member of Parliament Chrispin Chiinda who recently said the new police post was misplaced.
Chiinda told Kamanga residents that once elected Member of Parliament for Munali, he would ensure the police post is built in the heart of the compound for easy reach by residents.
But Njoomona said in an interview that zone leaders initiated the project and provided feedback as to where the police post should be.
He said the previous police post was wrongly placed inside the compound, adding that the opposition should not just speak from without.
“The new Kamanga police post which is a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) funded project is 100% done and should be commissioned soon. We are just waiting for furniture and other minor things, otherwise the building is completely done and residents should look forward for commissioning,” he said.
The previous police post was located inside Kamanga primary school but was later on demolished and vandalized by irate community members in 2020 following the accidental shooting of a boy by local police on patrol, sparking a protest.
The yet – to – be commissioned new police post is located just opposite Kamanga main station (Mlanga) Chelstone area.
“Yes it is on the other side but we are looking at service delivery and that is why we have built it at Kamanga station,” Njoomona added.
