Katete District Commissioner DC Raphael Matawa Phiri has been detained at Chipata Central Police Station for the alleged defilement of his juvenile granddaughter.
The 65-year-old senior government official was arrested in Chipata on Saturday, August 24, 2025, following a report filed at Katete Police Station.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says the suspect is yet to be formally charged for the offence of incest and will appear in court soon.
Police has urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to unfold without interference.
