Patriotic Front presidential aspirant Chanda Katotobwe has condemned the political violence that characterized Kabwe, targeting acting party president Given Lubinda.

Mr. Katotobwe says relying on physical and psychological acts aimed at injuring or intimidating opponents is applying the political doctrine of holding on to power through violence.

“To rely on physical and psychological acts aimed at injuring or intimidating opponents is to apply the political doctrine of holding on to power through violence. This has no moral logic because the current generation is already tormented by the violence of economic exclusion,” said Mr. Katotobwe who is also Luapula Member of Parliament.

In a statement, Mr. Katotobwe said while verbal and physical violence is growing, some representatives of the USA, UK and EU, who just five years ago were condemning any acts against the UPND, are now dead silent.

He says violence has no moral logic because the current generation is already tormented by the violence of economic exclusion.

“We need to protect the peace of this nation by letting our people be free to speak, associate and assemble because that is the hallmark of democracy. We must look at each other as one country, one nation, one people under our Almighty God and love one another and never resort to politically-induced violence, injustice, intimidation and hatred”, he added

He says there is need to protect the peace, tranquillity and democracy of the nation as momentum starts to build ahead of next year’s elections.
