In scenes comparable only to North Korean bodyguards running alongside the motorcade of their supreme leader Kim Jong-Un, youths of Kitwe yesterday braved the heat and dust to jog alongside the motorcade of President Hakainde Hichilema from Wusakile Roundabout to Arthur Davis Stadium.
In demonstration of love and adoration for their leader, the youths jogged as they chanted ‘Bally! Bally!” bringing Kitwe to a fever high frenzy of rapturous applause.
President Hichilema, who was accompanied by his Youth, Sport and Arts Minister Elvis Nkandu wasted little time to participate in the Kopala culture as they joined in Kopala dances.

But perhaps the highlight of the ‘Kopala for Bally’ show was when ‘Abatalali’ also known as ‘Super Kena’ stole the Head of State’s heart earning himself a few hundred kwacha and a lift by the President.
But it was not ‘parte after parte’ as President Hichilema, in his usual focus and hands on the job manner, addressed the youths on their importance.
“No meaningful development can ever be achieved without the engagement of you the youth. Nothing, there is nothing for this country without the youth so the youths are at the centre.
“Your government has made direct interventions targeted at the youth and this is deliberate. 20 months ago the young people of this country never believed what we have done could be done.” he said.
Nkandu and his two youth-friendly and artistic permanent secretaries Chama Fumba and Kangwa Chileshe have been haild a successful organisation of week-long youth activities culminating into a massive ceremony.
