POLICE in Kitwe are holding a 38-year-old man identified as Musonda Mumbi for the alleged murder of his 46-year-old girlfriend, whom authorities say was murdered in her own house.
According to details surrounding the incident believed to have occurred on February 19, the deceased, Clara Sakala 46, was in a romantic relationship with Musonda Mumbi who Police say the deceased had a child with.
On the night of her murder, it is believed Mumbi picked a quarrel with Clara, the quarrel that is said to have graduated to a physical fight and subsequent death of the 46-year-old.
Sources close to the incident share with TV Yatu that, after the suspect had allegedly killed Clara and put her in her bed, he called the deceased’s relatives asking them to rush to Riverside Extension, Mushili Close number 6, the residence of their beloved daughter and sister.
On arriving there, Mumbi led the relatives to the deceased’s bedroom where she was found laying cold in her bed.
According to the sources, Mumbi told the relatives that he was away for sometime and when he purportedly arrived back home around 01:00 hours in the morning of February 20, he found his lover unresponsive. According to him, Clara died in her sleep.
However, when her relatives inspected the body of their loved one, they noticed bruises and her body looked like she had been knocked down by a vehicle.
Disturbed by this, the relatives notified Riverside Police Station that dispatched officers to the scene.
Confirming the murder incident with TV Yatu, Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi says postmortem examination carried on the deceased by Dr. Olga Sadkovska showed that, Clara died from suffocation and sustained broken bones and neck, ruling out her boyfriend’s claim that she died in her sleep.
Police have since opened a docket and detained Musonda Mumbi 38, to help with investigations in the murder of Clara Sakala.
“The doctor’s preliminary findings were Close Fracture Of 5 And 6 Neck Vertebrae And Suffocation, as the real cause of the deceased’s death. The docket of murder has been opened and the boyfriend has since been put in custody to assist with investigations,” Commissioner Yuyi shares.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s family is on social media calling for their loved one’s justice.
