24th June, 2024 – The Lusaka City Council has successfully shut down an illegal ginger wine brewing operation in Lusaka’s Chilenje area, following a tip-off from concerned residents.
The Council’s Public Health inspectors, in collaboration with law enforcement from the Council Police and Zambia Police, raided the premises and seized apparatus and ingredients used in the illegal brewing process.
The ginger brewing operation was being conducted contrary to the Food Safety and Public Health Act, Cap 295 of the Laws of Zambia.
The individuals behind the brewing operation were masquerading as a tuition center, but were found to be operating without the necessary licenses and permits, posing a significant risk to public health and safety.
As a Local Authority, we will not tolerate illegal activities that put our citizens at risk.
We urge all businesses to operate within the law and prioritize public health and safety.
