The current load shedding being experienced in the country has had a negative impact on traders running butcheries in Lusaka and depend on electricity to power their fridges.
Arguably, alternative energy sources such as Gensets have been observed as expensive to maintain due to high purchase price as well as the unstable fuel prices where every month adjustments are being made.
As the country continues to struggle with power outages of more than 24 hours of no electricity in some areas, stocking of relish and particularly fresh meat, beef products as well fish has become increasingly challenging especially for those in the butchery business.
Some butcheries are reportedly running at loss while some, to avoid loss – making are allegedly selling rotten beef products to consumers and thereby risking lives.
To avoid this, some residents in Lusaka’s Kamanga compound have disclosed or rather claim that they have been forced to become vegetarians as revealed by one affected customers.
