Odini Arts Centre proprietor Moses Sakala of the ‘Sakala Brothers’ fame has cautioned society on the need to be appreciative of their local identity which is threatened by globalization.
Mr Sakala said globalization has seen Zambians adopt cultural practices of other nations thereby, neglecting some of their true identity based on dressing, food and music.
Mr Sakala said because of this, Onini Arts Centre has partnered with the Lusaka Music Club to host the inaugural ‘Spirit of Zambezi: Royal Salutations and Zambian Rhythms night’ on 17th December, 2022 in Lusaka.
Mr Sakala said the music industry is cognizant of the fact that traditional leaders have played a major role in the preservation of identity and culture.
He said as such, through this event, artists will be paying tribute to traditional leaders through music for they have helped recurring generations dating to pre-colonial times in preserving culture.
Mr Sakala said at least six traditional leaders are earmarked to attend the inaugural Spirit of Zambezi: Royal Salutations and Zambian Rhythms night to pass the message of unity, peace, love and reconciliation.
Among the traditional leaders include; Paramount Chief Mpezeni, Paramount Chief Chitimukulu, Chieftainess Nkomeshya, Chief Mukuni and Chief Mumena.
Mr Sakala said the event will also promote inter-cultural marriages hence bringing some well-known couples that have intermarried as a way of appreciating cultural integration and uplifting oneness as well as unity.
And Mr Sakala said as a way of involving young people in arts, the event will further open synergies that will help towards the acquisition of learning materials to aid arts pupils and students for an initial number of ten universities.
Meanwhile, Lusaka
Music Club manager Francesca Casilli said the performances will be a celebration of Zambian culture, history and traditional music by musicians determined to uphold Zambian culture.
Ms Casilli said the determination to uphold Zambian culture through traditional music performances by artists who include Moses Sakala, Angela Nyirenda, Mumba Yachi, Alice Chali of Amayenge and Wezi among others is nothing short of admirable.
