SATURDAY was a dark day for residents of Ndeke Compound in Luanshya District after a young mother aged 22 ended her life on a day that she was seemingly happy.

Thandiwe Miti, who was married to Mulwanda Wamusowila of house number, 4818 new Ndeke was reportedly four months pregnant and preparing to have her own Chilanga Mulilo before she suddenly gave up on life just a few months after her father’s demise.

According to reports, Thandiwe took her daughter on Saturday morning below the age of three to her mother’s house, Diana Nakazwe who resides at house number 1571/1 Chisokone Avenue so that she could go and attend a Chilanga Mulilo that was taking place in the same town.

After the event, she returned home around 19:00 hours, and went with her husband to pick their child.

When they reached there, it reported that Thandiwe’s mother requested that her husband leaves her at her house as the couple was having some differences.
Later, Tandiwe told her mother that she wanted to go and see her late father at the graveyard.

After that, she changed her clothes and put on a night dress and a Chitenge material, and proceeded to go outside the house. Unknown to them, she had plans of ending her life.

Minutes passed, and her mother decided to call her husband (son in-law) to get back as he was driving, so that she could use his vehicle in search of his wife.

Penelope Namundi aged 29 who is Thandiwe’s aunt was then asked to go and open the gate for Mulwanda after he arrived.

But unfortunately, on her way to the gate, she stumbled upon Thandiwe, who was hanging on the DSTV stand in a standing position.

With shock, Namundi promptly ran back to the house to inform the mother, but when they went back to the scene they found that her husband had already untied her.

Mulwanda, had gained entry into the yard by jumping the fence, untied his wife, and rushed her to Roan General Hospital where she was examined and pronounced dead by a doctor.

The matter was later reported to the police.

Copperbelt Police commanding officer, Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident to Kalemba stating that officers visited the scene on Sunday and further went to Roan General Hospital Mortuary and inspected the body.
Mweemba said upon inspection, police observed some bruises around the neck.
However, hundreds of friends, family members and neighbours of Thandiwe today gathered to pay their last respect to her as she was being buried today at Milemu cemetery in Luanshya.
