A 34-year-old banker in Lundazi District of Eastern Province has been hospitalised with serious facial burns after her husband allegedly poured hot cooking oil on her following a domestic dispute.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, which reportedly occurred around 23:00 hours on Monday, April 13, 2026, in Chikaya Compound, Lundazi.
Victim Identified as Access Bank Employee
Mr. Mweemba identified the victim as Ketina Ng’andu, an employee of Access Bank, while the suspect has been identified as Robby Supuni, aged 52, a driver employed by World Vision Lundazi.
Police revealed that Ng’andu left home in the morning for work, while Supuni also went to his workplace, leaving their four children in the care of a maid.
According to police, the maid normally knocks off at 18:00 hours, a time when both parents are usually expected to be home.
Husband Allegedly Became Angry After Wife Returned Late
However, it is alleged that after work, the victim did not go straight home but instead visited a friend. This resulted in the maid leaving at the usual time, leaving Supuni, who arrived home earlier, to care for the children and prepare their meal.
Mr. Mweemba said the victim reportedly arrived home around 22:00 hours, and when questioned by her husband about her whereabouts, she reportedly told him she had been visiting a friend.
The explanation is said to have sparked a heated argument, which later turned violent.
Hot Cooking Oil Allegedly Poured on Her Face
Police stated that during the dispute, the suspect allegedly poured hot cooking oil on Ng’andu’s face, causing serious injuries.
The victim sustained a bruised and swollen face, a swollen left ear, swollen eye, and swelling on the left side of the neck.
Suspect Arrested and Charged
Ng’andu later reported the matter to Lundazi Police Station, where officers issued her with a Police Medical Report Form to enable her seek treatment.
Due to the seriousness of the injuries, police moved quickly and apprehended the suspect.
Mr. Mweemba confirmed that Supuni has since been formally charged with Assault and is expected to appear in court soon.
The incident has once again raised concerns about the growing cases of domestic violence in Zambia, with calls for couples to resolve disputes peacefully and seek counselling instead of resorting to violence.
