Lungu’s death a profound national loss – Ex Kalulushi mayor

Former Kalulushi mayor Rashida Mulenga has described former President Edgar Lungu’s death as a profound loss to the nation.

Lungu died in South Africa last week where he was reportedly undergoing medical treatment.

The former President unfortunately succumb to death on the 5th of June in Pretoria.

Government has since accorded Lungu fondly known as ECL 7 days of national mourning in his honor.

Meanwhile, the former Kalulushi civic leader paid tribute to Lungu.

In her message of comfort to the Lungu family shortly after she signed in the book of condolences in Lusaka, Mulenga said his death is a huge loss to the nation.

“I want to thank you for the opportunity you have me through the people of Kalulushi to serve under your leadership as mayor for Kalulushi district. You ran your race, may your soul rest in eternal peace,” she added.

On the morning of 5 June 2025, Lungu died after suffering reported cardiac complications from a surgery he was undergoing at the Mediclinic Medforum in Pretoria, South Africa. He was 68 years old.
