Lusaka Press Club (LPC) president Edward Roy Makayi says the club is self – funded and is not being sponsored by any political party.

This is contrary to insinuations by some colleagues in the profession that have linked the club to a named political party.

Makayi has told journalists during a media engagement, Friday that the club has so much potential to mobilize resources on its own through interactions with various stakeholders who include the business community.

“We are being funded from our initiative as an executive. We have invested in the club as a brand,” Makayi said.

Makayi added that the club operates and survives through corporate support with companies, donations and good will emanating from courtesy calls.

Meanwhile, LPC vice president Oliver Chisenga said executive members of the club are entrepreneurs who are using their own resources as business persons to manage the affairs of the club.

Chisenga has also appealed to critics to approach the club’s leadership for engagement in order to help the association achieve its goals as a club, words echoed by club’s deputy secretary general, Jessy Bwalya.

Meanwhile, freelance journalist Bangwe Naviley urged LPC to soldier on despite criticisms from some comrades in the media industry.

LPC has since launched its roadmap as well as unveiled a new attire (black) away from the orange and white attires.
