LUSAKA WOMAN STEALS BABY FROM MATERNITY WARD WITH INTENT TO TAKE PICTURES FOR HER BOYFRIEND
In an attempt to deceive her boyfriend who she is believed to have lied having been pregnant, a 24 year old woman travelled from her home in Lusaka’s Mtendere East area to Kafue where she stole a baby from another women at Kafue General Hospital maternity ward.
The incident is reported to have occurred yesterday at around 17:30 hours at Kafue General Hospital maternity ward in Kafue district.
The woman identified as Christine Tembo was apprehended yesterday by hospital staff after she allegedly went to the maternity ward where she got a baby belonging to another woman identified to be Mildred Munyama aged 23 of unknown house number in Shimabala West.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said in a statement that upon being apprehended and questioned, the desperate woman said the motive behind the stealing of the baby was for her to take pictures of it and send to her boyfriend whom she told she was expecting and had now delivered.
Mr Hamoonga said even after listening to her stories, police have detained the woman in custody charged with the offense of child stealing.
