Zambian artist Macky 2 has spoken out following his recent arrest on the Copperbelt, saying he was detained simply for meeting with a group of ex-miners who have reportedly gone years without receiving their full pensions.
In a heartfelt statement, the aspiring Nchanga Member of Parliament, born Mulaza Kaira, revealed that his intention was not political but to listen to the struggles of the former miners.
He described the men as individuals who “gave their strength and sweat to build the nation,” yet continue to face hardship.
Macky 2 stressed that he could not ignore their situation, adding that even though he may not yet have the power to fix their challenges, he is determined to use his voice to highlight their plight. He insisted that their stories deserve attention and action.
The artist confirmed that he has since been released and expressed gratitude to supporters who stood by him.
He reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the voiceless, stating that his journey is about restoring dignity and ensuring that no one is forgotten.
