Zambian music heavyweight Macky 2 has issued a fresh statement clarifying his position after his earlier post on the Yo Maps “Budget” music video controversy sparked heated debate across social media.
The conversation erupted after scenes from Yo Maps’ trending music video, particularly one alleged to show two girls kissing, triggered backlash from sections of the public who described the content as culturally inappropriate and morally unacceptable in the Zambian context.
“Mmmm.. Awe Naikosa” – Macky 2 Responds to Public Reaction
In his latest post, Macky 2 admitted that his previous remarks stirred strong reactions online, with many accusing him of defending Yo Maps.
However, the rapper quickly shut down that narrative.
“I am NOT defending Yo Maps. AWE. Let me be loud about that,” Macky 2 wrote.
He went further to state that the controversial clip shown in the video goes against the morals and cultural values many Zambians uphold.
“That ka clip he showed in that music video (two girls kissing) goes against what many of us, including myself, believe is morally right,” he said.
Macky 2 Says He Shares the Public’s Disappointment
The Kopala Swag hitmaker made it clear that he understands why people are angry and demanding accountability.
He emphasized that the outrage from fans and parents is justified.
“I understand completely why people are angry and demanding accountability. That anger is valid. That disappointment is valid. I share it,” he posted.
“Accountability and Grace Can Coexist”
Despite agreeing that Yo Maps was wrong, Macky 2 urged Zambians not to completely destroy the singer’s name, arguing that artists can make mistakes and still learn from them.
The rapper explained that his earlier message was not meant to sugarcoat the incident, but rather to highlight that Yo Maps has also shown positive character traits off-camera.
“Outside of this mistake, I have seen a side of Yo Maps Yo that is genuinely kind, generous and trying to do good,” he said.
Macky 2 stressed that Yo Maps’ good deeds do not cancel out the wrongdoing, but should allow room for growth.
“That doesn’t erase what he did wrong.. Awe. but it does mean that when he falls, maybe he deserves a little room to learn, apologize and grow,” he added.
“We Can Call Him Wrong Without Calling Him Satan”
In a strong message that has since gone viral, Macky 2 warned against extreme online attacks that turn criticism into personal hatred.
“We can say ‘what you did was wrong’ without saying ‘you are entirely evil, satana iwe,’” Macky 2 wrote.
He explained that Zambia can maintain its moral standards while still allowing artists a chance to correct their mistakes.
Macky 2 Calls for Higher Standards, Not Total Cancellation
The rapper ended his statement by calling for a balanced approach—one that holds artists accountable while still offering them a chance to improve.
“Let’s keep loving our culture, our values and even our flawed artists.. by calling them to a higher standard, not canceling them completely,” he concluded.
Social Media Reacts
Macky 2’s clarification has continued to trend, with many praising him for standing firm on cultural values while also promoting fairness and growth in the music industry.
Meanwhile, the Yo Maps “Budget” video debate remains one of the most discussed topics in Zambian entertainment, with industry stakeholders such as the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) also previously issuing statements on the matter.
As the discussion continues, Macky 2’s message has sparked a wider national conversation on artistic freedom, morality, accountability, and cultural responsibility in Zambia’s entertainment industry.
