And police in Kitwe have detained a maid for allegedly stealing US$21,000 and jewellery worth US$20,000 from her employer’s bedroom.
During interrogation by officers, the suspect, Tembo, admitted stealing the money and using part of it to buy a house worth K140,000 in Kitwe’s Kamitondo and a Toyota Allion vehicle.
Police recovered K67,200 and US$5,140 after searching Ms Tembo’s house but the car is reported to be with her husband, who is on the run.

“Her house was searched and the following items were recovered; 10 gold chains, six gold bangles, three gold rings, 16 gold earrings, 19 pockets of cement, five door frames and two iron bars,” Copperbelt police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said.
“Other recovered items include 30 by three metres of iron sheets, 11 conduit pipes, one home theatre, 4×20 litres of paint, one double mattress, 11 window frames, one fan and two curtain rails.”
Police also recovered one sofa set, two carpets, one box of air ventilators, one box of electric sockets, a box of bulb holders, three boxes of mortise locks, four silver mortise locks, one shower pipe and a double bed.
