Presidential aspirant Makebi Zulu has called on young people in Zambia to reject political manipulation and take a more active role in shaping the nation’s future.
Mr. Zulu said youths in the country have for many years been ignored and exploited by politicians for political gain.
He urged young people to reject being used as tools for mobilisation and violence during election periods.
He said youths should instead focus on contributing positively to national development.
Mr. Zulu said this in a statement issued to mark the country’s commemoration of Youth Day.
He emphasised that young people should not merely be regarded as leaders of tomorrow, but as leaders of today who must actively participate in decision making processes and leadership at all levels.
The presidential hopeful further pledged that under his leadership, young people would be empowered through skills development, entrepreneurship, agriculture, technology, and participation in the growing digital economy.
Mr. Zulu also encouraged the youth to rise above fear and exploitation and play a central role in building a Zambia founded on justice, opportunity, and respect for the rule of law.
