Debate has ensued on social media following a decision by the Tonse Alliance government through the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Michael Usi to block South Africa’s pant less star Zodwa Wabantu from performing in the country.
Wabantu was scheduled to perform at Dominic’s in Blantyre on June 11 2022.
According to Usi, the ministry penned the organisers not to go ahead with the event as it was deemed not fit for the country.
But the ban has attracted mixed reactions among Malawians with some praising the Minister while others are criticizing the government on the matter.
Ernest Lundu wrote: “What law are the performers or organisers of the event breaking? The Minister can’t make decisions and disrupt business based on personal beliefs. Take him to court”.
Another concerned citizen identified as Isobar Papi Stories wrote: “In short, we have been denied the right to see the future…
“The last hope for bachelors and single men in this June weather has been cracked to pieces.
“Nice move anyway”.
On the other hand some Malawians have praised the move.
Harry Majawa wrote: “Thumb up Michael Usi , let her perform somewhere not here , so demonic.”
Concurring with Majawa’s remarks Peter Mbweza wrote: “Good move ministry of tourism, our ethical standards must be respected.”
Meanwhile, one of the organisers of the event Biggie Lu says they are in the process of negotiating with the ministry to make them understand that their client would not perform in her controversial dressing style.
