A 50-year-old man of Monze has pleaded not guilty to stealing 9 goats, saying he bought them legally and has a signed letter of sale for the transaction.
The accused however says the letter does not have a National Registration Card number or signature from the seller as he is illiterate and does not have the document.
This is in a matter in which Royd Hamoobe of Chinkuli Village in Chief Hamusonde’s Chiefdom stood charged with Stock Theft, contrary to the laws of Zambia.

Byta FM Court Journalist reports that Hamoobe is alleged to have stolen 9 goats altogether valued at K14, 400, the property of Batra Hibweengwa.
He is assumed to have stolen the animals on 5th June, 2023, in Monze District, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Hamoobe told the court that he bought 6 goats from a man named Bristol Habeeya, who offered to sell him the animals as he is known as a livestock trader in his village.
He said he prepared a letter of sale with Habeeya along with other witnesses, which he kept in his books as proof of their transaction.
Hamoobe stated that he later took the animals to Lusaka for sale, where he was apprehended by Police after Hibweengwa identified the goats as his own.
Magistrate Valentine Mukuka adjourned the matter to 10th November, 2023 for judgement.
