The Livingstone High Court sitting in Mazabuka has sentenced Different Maambo to 10 years imprisonment with hard labor for causing the death of his wife, Alphrasia Chuma Mwiinga, after suspecting her of infidelity.
Byta FM Zambia Court Journalist reports that Maambo was charged with manslaughter contrary to Section 199 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars are that on 29th July 2022, Maambo unlawfully caused the death of Mwiinga, a charge he admitted to.
Facts before the court are that Maambo was at his home with his wife in Mazabuka when a wrangle ensued between them over suspicions of infidelity, leading to a physical fight.
Mwiinga sustained bodily injuries during the quarrel and died on the spot. A postmortem conducted on 3rd August 2022 indicated that the cause of death was severe neck injuries due to strangling.
Through his lawyer, Maambo expressed remorse and pleaded for the court’s leniency, apologizing to his in-laws and asking for a second chance to reform.
During sentencing, Judge Lombe Phiri regretted the circumstances that led to Mwiinga’s death, noting that physical quarrels of such nature are becoming prevalent, hence the need for punishment.
