Luapula Province Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi has disclosed that 13 of the 19 detainees who escaped from police custody on May 19th have since been recaptured.
Mr Yuyi expressed confidence that the remaining six escapees will soon be apprehended, stating that the police have leads on their whereabouts.
He revealed that the escape was masterminded by one of the detainees with the help of his mother, who allegedly sneaked in a pair of scissors during visiting hours,which was later used to open the cell lock.
The police command has commended the continued cooperation from members of the public, which has played a significant role in the successful recapture of the detainees.
Mr Yuyi emphasized that the collaboration reflects the growing trust and confidence between the police and the community.
