Zambian boxer Margret Tembo who became the first female boxer to qualify for the Olympics in the history of boxing in Zambia says she is not disappointed after getting eliminated from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

She says she tried her level best to showcase her prowess but sadly lost to Pihla Kaivo-Oja of Finland in her round of 32-match women’s 50kg on a unanimous point decision (5-0).

She added that despite losing she is proud of becoming the first woman in the history of boxing in Zambia to represent at the Olympic Games and has since paid gratitude to everyone who supported her.

And National Team Boxing Coach Wisdom Mudenda says for women’s boxing in the country to improve athletes should be exposed to more international competitions.

Mudenda says Tembo has the skill and luck to get international exposure in the ring.

And Mudenda says since Margret has been eliminated the focus will now be on Patrick Chinyemba who will be stepping in the ring on Tuesday 30 July in the round of 16 as he was on bye in the round of 32.

Meanwhile, in football, the Copper Queens lost to Australia 6-5 in their second match at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The ladies will be back in action on 31 July 2024 for their final group game against Germany.
