Wife says hubby is usually transferred out of town, couple also lacked accommodation.
A WOMAN of Ndola has attributed the failure of her 15-year marriage to her husband’s frequent job transfers out of town and lack of communication.
Sharon Mubanga was testifying in a case in which her husband, Emmanuel Mubita, 41, petitioned the Ndola Main Local Court for divorce. Mubita cited matrimonial disputes as the reason for wanting the marriage dissolved.
Mubanga told the court that her husband’s constant transfers and long absences from home greatly affected their relationship.
“Because of the transfers, communication broke down in our marriage, which affected intimacy between us,” she said.
The court heard that the couple married in February 2011 after K100 was paid as dowry. They have three children together. Mubanga said they had tried to resolve their differences through family elders, but nothing changed as Mubita insisted on ending the marriage.
Mubita also acknowledged that his frequent transfers contributed to the breakdown of the marriage.
“I would leave my wife and children in Ndola while I worked outside town, a situation that affected communication between us,” he said.
Delivering judgment, presiding magistrate Bizaliel Nyoni said both parties had contributed to the breakdown of the marriage.
“Lack of communication and no affection has led to the downfall of your marriage. Your transfers, Mubita, have also played a role in the downfall of your marriage because you were moving from one place to the other,” magistrate Nyoni said.
The court granted the divorce and ordered Mubita to compensate Mubanga with K10,000, to be paid in monthly instalments of K1,000 starting at the end of March.
Mubita was also ordered to pay K600 monthly as child maintenance, beginning at the same time, and to provide for all their basic needs.
