Former deputy sports minister and ex-Mufumbwe MP Stephen Masumba has sponsored this year’s Youth Day Tournament in Mufumbwe, North Western province, with K250,000.

The “Mother of All Tournaments” will feature over 30 male and female teams, with finals on March 12, 2026, and is part of Masumba’s continued involvement in youth sport development.

Masumba explains that the initiative aims to empower youth through sport, marking 20 years of his contribution to Mufumbwe’s sports development.

“We want Mufumbwe to produce athletes for national teams and be a household name in sports,” Masumba said.

Masumba, who has in recent years sponsored similar tournaments called on girls to take part in the tournament.

“Like we have said before, we do not want to leave anyone behind especially the girl child, and this is why we are calling on them to come on board this time around and participate in this year’s youth day tournament because we believe they are also partners in development through the sport,” he said.

Masumba has since promised a successful 2026 youth day tournament for the region. The tournament’s prizes include, -Men’s Category: K100,000, Kamabuta-Kashima Zone: K50,000, among other prizes.

Meanwhile, Mufumbwe youth movement chairperson, Sylvester Lumbwe has expressed happiness with the development, describing the initiative as a life – changing opportunity for young people in the province.

Masumba was the MP for Mufumbwe constituency. He was initially elected in 2011 on the MMD ticket, defeating UPND’s Elliot Kamondo by a narrow margin of 59 votes.

However, he later switched to the PF party and won a by-election in November 2012 where he was appointed deputy sports minister.

Masumba has in recent years been actively involved in youth sport development, earning himself the name of North – Western province sport promoter.
