Matero Court Drama: Husband Wins Divorce Despite Wife Claiming They Still Have Intimacy Daily

A dramatic and humorous moment unfolded at the Matero Local Court when a woman shocked the courtroom by revealing that her husband, who had filed for divorce, was still engaging in intimate relations with her almost every day — including on the morning of their court appearance.

According to Zambia Daily Mail, Miriam Namukonda left the court gallery in laughter after openly questioning why her husband, Evans Miyoba, had decided to end their marriage despite what she described as an active and ongoing marital relationship.

Husband Petitions for Divorce

Miyoba, aged 41, petitioned the court to dissolve his marriage to Namukonda. The couple got married in 2017, paid dowry, and have one child together.

However, Namukonda strongly opposed the divorce and insisted that the marriage had been peaceful until interference from her husband’s relatives.

“We Had Intimacy Even This Morning” – Wife Tells Court

In her testimony, Namukonda said she did not understand why her husband brought her to court, claiming that they continued to share marital relations regularly.

“I don’t know why my husband brought me to court. Is it that he was only using me? We have intimacy every night. The night he served me with the summons, we had intimacy, and even before coming to court this morning, we had intimacy,” she told the court, triggering laughter among those present.

She further alleged that she faced constant ridicule from her husband’s relatives, including her mother-in-law and sisters-in-law, who accused her late mother of practicing witchcraft.

Shocking Allegations Against Husband’s Sisters
Namukonda also claimed that Miyoba’s sisters wanted him to divorce her so that they could allegedly have improper relations with him — a statement that further stunned the court.

She pleaded with the magistrate to reject the divorce, insisting that her husband was being manipulated by family members.

Husband Responds: “She Starves My Children”
In his defence, Miyoba accused Namukonda of mistreating his three children from a previous relationship.

“My wife starves my children. Why should I stay with such a woman?” he argued, adding that Namukonda also showed hatred towards his family.

Court Grants Divorce, Orders Compensation and Maintenance

After hearing both sides, Magistrate Harriet Mulenga ruled in favour of the divorce, stating that the court cannot force people to remain married against their will.

She ordered Miyoba to compensate Namukonda K10,000, to be paid in instalments of K500 per month, with the first payment being K1,000 due at month-end in May.

The court also ordered Miyoba to pay K750 monthly maintenance, which will be subject to annual review.

Case Sparks Public Reaction

The unusual details of the divorce case have since sparked conversation among Zambians online, with many expressing disbelief at the wife’s claims and others praising the court for focusing on legal facts rather than emotions.

The case highlights the growing number of domestic disputes making headlines, especially those involving family interference and unresolved household tensions.
