Mazabuka man rapes friend’s wife, flees

A MAZABUKA man has vanished from public eyes into the comfort of hiding as police officers are on his tail trying track him for raping his friend’s wife.

The rape is reported to have occurred on December 12, 2025, between 21:00 hours and 23:40 hours, at Namilindi Village of Chief Mwanachingwala.

On the material day, the survivor, aged 20, was at home with her two children, aged six months and two years while her 28‑year‑old husband had gone to play football and did not return home until around 05:00 hours the following morning.

According to reports, around 20:00 hours, she retired to bed with the children but while asleep, she heard the main door open and recognised the intruder as Shaka Nyereti, a friend to her husband.

The suspect forcibly removed her clothing and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent and covered her mouth to prevent her from screaming.

The survivor, sustained painful private parts and general body pains.

Southern Province police commissioner Moono Namalongo confirmed incident to Kalemba.

Namalongo said when her husband returned the following morning, she disclosed the incident, and the matter was reported to police.

“A docket of rape was opened, and a medical report form was issued,” he said.

“No arrest has been made at this stage as the suspect is currently on the run but investigations are underway to apprehend him.”
