A 22-year-old man from Mazabuka has been sentenced to six months imprisonment for stealing roll-on from ShopRite stores.
Byta FM Court Journalist reports that Trust Hamoonga appeared before Magistrate Pasmall Mweetwa for plea, facing a charge of theft contrary to section 272 of the Penal Code, chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
According to court records, on 11th June 2025, around 12:00 hours, Hamoonga entered ShopRite, took one Nivea roll-on valued at K70, and put it in his pocket.
A security officer on duty, who noticed his actions, kept an eye on him as he proceeded to another shelf and picked up a loaf of bread.
At the till, Hamoonga only paid for the bread and a plastic bag.
Before leaving the store, security officers stopped him and requested a receipt, which showed only two paid items.
Hamoonga was then apprehended and later detained at Mazabuka Police Station.
In delivering judgment, Magistrate Mweetwa sentenced him to six months imprisonment with hard labor, effective from the day of his arrest.
