Thandi Chirwa, a rising television anchor and junior brand ambassador for Channel A TV, is making significant strides in her flourishing journalism career with a prospective internship at FOX 13 Studios in Seattle. Born to Davies Chirwa, the visionary Founder and President of DC Productions Media Group and Channel A TV, Thandi’s immersion into the world of media began at an early age, influenced by her father’s pioneering work in digital storytelling. Her mother, Grace Maseko Chirwa, a renowned fashion designer and Founder of GGY Collections, has also played a key role, dressing Thandi in signature designs that reflect her growing stature.
Thandi’s journey into broadcasting began as a student intern at PBS Puget Sound Access Channel 77 TV Studios in Kent, Washington. After two years of shadowing industry professionals, she swiftly transitioned into reporting, covering major events across professional sports, entertainment, pageantry, and charity programs. Collaborating with leading media outlets such as NBC, ABC, and CBS, Thandi gained hands-on experience in live broadcasting and was recognized as one of America’s youngest female television hosts and anchors in 2016 at just 11 years old. This early recognition also saw her develop skills in directing, editing, and producing short films, underscoring her versatility in the media industry.
Throughout her career, Thandi has interviewed some of the entertainment world’s most recognizable names, including Anthony Anderson, John Stamos, Jojo Siwa, and Henry Winkler. Her portfolio also includes coverage of high-profile events like the NFL Super Bowl, College Football, We Day, and AVP Volleyball, showcasing her ability to handle diverse and prestigious assignments.
Currently pursuing a double major in Journalism and Business at the University of Washington with plans to enter law school, Thandi is eager to deepen her experience through her prospective internship at FOX 13 Studios. During her recent visit to the studios, she had the opportunity to shadow Sports Director Aaron Levine during live productions and gain valuable insights from News Anchor David Rose.
Additionally, she received key advice from Multimedia Sports Producer Ethan McReynolds on how to cultivate her unique voice and style, blending innovation with the solid foundations of traditional journalism.
Thandi’s adaptability and forward-thinking approach, including her integration of AI and other modern technologies, give her a distinct edge in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape. Her focus remains on balancing cutting-edge tools with the timeless principles of storytelling, ensuring her work remains impactful, authentic, and forward-focused.
Thandi’s journey is one of dedication, innovation, and passion for journalism, with aspirations to inspire the next generation of storytellers both in the U.S. and across Africa, where her roots lie. As she continues to expand her influence, her ambition is to empower youth globally to follow their dreams and leverage modern media to amplify underrepresented voices.
