Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Ms. Doreen Mwamba has called for the creation of an inclusive and harmonious society, where children and young people’s rights can be enhanced.
She notes that children and young people, through the ‘power of diversity’, should be empowered in order for them to reach their full potential as they explore and nurture their talents.
Speaking in a speech read on her behalf by Director for Community Development, Ms. Patricia Muyamwa, during the launch of the ‘Barefeet Youth Arts Festival under the theme: ‘Unity With Diversity’, Ms. Mwamba noted that youths and young children have a huge potential which they should protect and promote.
She said through various artistic mediums such as music, dance and theatre, young individuals should unleash their creative potential to boost confidence and develop essential life skills such as teamwork, communication and problem solving.
“The festival cultivates a sense of belonging and social cohesion” Ms. Mwamba said, and hoped that such collaborations will form connections that transcends various differences, in order to strengthen the social fabric in communities where everyone can thrive.
