The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zambia Chapter has praised the Zambian government for enacting Statutory Instrument (SI) Number 35 of 2024, which puts the Access to Information (ATI) Law into operation.
Lorraine Mwanza Chisanga, Chairperson of MISA Zambia, views this development as a significant stride toward enhancing transparency, accountability, and good governance in Zambia.
Chisanga emphasizes that the ATI Law empowers citizens to access crucial information related to public matters, fostering informed decision-making and effective implementation.
She said by operationalizing this law, the government ensures greater scrutiny of its actions, thereby minimizing opportunities for corruption and mismanagement of public resources.
Chisanga notes that the law provides a legal framework for journalists and media practitioners to seek and disseminate information, bolstering investigative journalism and facilitating the free flow of information.
