Veteran journalist, media expert, and political commentator Dr. Mischeck Moyo has announced that he will contest the Mufulira mayoral seat as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with Mafken News, Dr. Moyo said his decision was influenced by appeals from members of the clergy, community leaders, and other stakeholders who encouraged him to actively participate in politics and seek public office.
He revealed that several political parties, including the ruling United Party for National Development, Tonse Alliance, Citizens First, and Resolute Party, had approached him. However, he said contesting as an independent candidate would best serve the interests of the people of Mufulira.
Dr. Moyo further disclosed that he is working alongside Kankoyo aspiring Member of Parliament Dr. Ed Chomba and Mufulira Central aspiring Member of Parliament Anna Mwitwa as they engage communities ahead of the 2026 elections.
He also expressed gratitude to the people and stakeholders who have shown confidence in his leadership and encouraged him to contest the mayoral seat.
