Socialist Party – SP President Dr Fred M’membe has urged Zambians to recognize that the highly publicized debt-restructuring efforts by the current administration are merely a ruse orchestrated by the Head of State.
The new Eurobonds are scheduled to mature in 2032 and 2053.
M’membe contends that President Hichilema, anticipating a potential victory in the 2026 elections and another 5-year term ending in 2031, has strategically evaded the responsibility of servicing the debt.
He said by doing so, Hichilema has effectively created room for additional borrowing during his tenure, leaving the burden of repayment to his successor.
Describing the Head of State as a schemer, M’membe accuses him of shirking the obligation to repay the Bonds while in office.
