Munali Constituency aspiring Member of Parliament Thomas Sipalo has disclosed that he has written to the University of Zambia (UNZA) management seeking approval to drill a solar-powered borehole at the institution in a move aimed at improving access to clean drinking water for students.
Sipalo, who is also the CEO of the Tiikosesa Movement, announced in a statement that letters have already been delivered to UNZA and his team is now awaiting feedback from the university authorities.
“Letters have been delivered at UNZA… We have submitted our letters to UNZA, we are currently waiting for their response,” Sipalo wrote.
He explained that once the Dean of Students gives the green light, the borehole drilling project will begin immediately at Runnings, a popular student residential area within UNZA.
“We shall drill the water at Runnings immediately the Dean of Students gives us a go ahead. We want to ensure that students have consistent access to clean drinking water,” he stated.
Sipalo said the initiative is part of his commitment to supporting students and supplementing government efforts in improving student welfare.
“We continue to support and supplement the efforts of the government by ensuring that students welfare is well taken care of,” he added.
In his message, Sipalo also used a familiar UNZA slogan, stressing unity among students and the wider university community.
“We are all ba UNZA one, waibala bwanji iwe!!!” he wrote.
The announcement has since attracted attention online, with many students and members of the public reacting positively and waiting to see if UNZA management will approve the project.
