Organized People’s Party (OPP) President Eng. Dr. Brian Mushimba, has condemned what he terms “politics of convenience” among some Zambian politicians, saying the country needs leaders guided by principle ahead of the August 13 general elections.
Dr. Mushimba said Zambia is at a defining moment as millions of citizens grapple with high cost of living, unemployment, poor public services, and declining confidence in national institutions.
“At this time, our country needs leaders who are guided by principle, conviction, and commitment to the people—not by political convenience or personal ambition,” he stated.
Dr. Mushimba expressed disappointment at politicians who move from one political party to another whenever it appears advantageous.
“It is deeply disappointing to see some politicians treating this calling of public service as a transaction of convenience,’ he said.
“Leadership cannot be about chasing the next opportunity or aligning with whoever seems strongest at the moment. Leadership is about standing for something, even when it is difficult.”
He added that citizens cannot be expected to believe in a leader’s vision one day only for that same leader to abandon it the next day.
“That is being a joker and this country doesn’t need jokers anymore in public offices,” Dr. Mushimba said.
The OPP Presidential Candidate alias Mr 4 million jobs said his party will not be part of what he called a “circus” but will stand firm on founding values of integrity and service.
“As OPP, we want to be on record that we will stand firm with citizens and on our founding values & principles.
We believe in a Zambia that can work for every citizen if governed by the best men and women among us, God fearing, with high levels of integrity and a verifiable track record of decency,” he added.
