The Zambia Women’s Hockey Team have recorded their biggest ever win of the World Cup after thrashing hosts Oman 11-3 to settle for a 15th place finish at the 2024 Hockey 5s World Cup.
Zambia had before today lost all their first five games and were today only playing in 15th and 16th position ranking matches against Oman who end the prestigious competition winless.
Coach Floyd Chomba’s ladies opened the scoring through through Lusaka Sharks midfielder Loveness Mudenda in the first minute before she went on to score two more goals in the second and twenty second minutes, Zambia’s latest export to Italy Carol Nakombe then took over matters and scored six to add more goals to her name before Annie Mvula and Ireen Mulenga scored their debut goals.
“This is an amazing experience for us, we have learnt alot of lessons from this tournament especially that we got a chance to play and watch some of the World’s top ranked Hockey teams in action, we will definitely go back home with lots of positives.
Today’s win is an important morale booster for the ladies as we shift our focus to the next assignments which will be the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers,” Chomba said.
