The opposition New Congress Party (NCP) has formally invited Makebi Zulu, a respected Constitutional Lawyer, to stand as its presidential candidate in the 2026 elections.

NCP President Peter Chanda announced the decision during a press conference at the party’s headquarters in New Kasama.

Addressing journalists, Mr Chanda declared that the party had listened to the voices of Zambians calling for unity within the opposition.

He emphasised that leadership is not about personal ambition but about discernment and service to the people.

Mr Chanda explained that, after prayer and consultation, he had resolved not to contest the presidency himself in 2026.

He affirmed that the NCP would rally behind Mr Zulu, whom he described as a man of courage, faith, and conviction.

Mr Chanda highlighted Mr Zulu’s loyalty to former President Edgar Lungu and his defence of the Constitution.

He remarked that Mr Zulu’s law firm had consistently supported the Patriotic Front and the Lungu family without fear or favour.

Mr Chanda underscored that Mr Zulu is respected across the political divide and embodies unity in diversity.

He urged members of the Patriotic Front and other opposition groups to unite behind Mr Zulu for the good of the nation.

Mr Chanda asserted that the endorsement was not his alone but reflected the will of the NCP delegates and the wider public.
