The NGO WASH Forum has called for a shift to integrated and equitable water governance in the country.
This follows a three-day learning session for over 50 NGO WASH Forum members on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and climate change, held in Lusaka.
Forum Advocacy Officer Nonde Lwatula who spoke on behalf of NGO WASH Forum Coordinator Bubala Muyovwe-Mumba emphasised that water is the lifeblood of ecosystems and a fundamental human right.
Mr. Lwatula argued that traditional, siloed management approaches are now insufficient.
He stated that collaboration is the greatest currency for water security.
Meanwhile, Water Voices United (WVU) Deputy Project Manager Davy Ng’oma outlined ongoing project support adding that coaching and funding would be available to turn learning into action.
Mr. Ng’oma confirmed the project’s commitment to strengthening civil society organisation (CSO) advocacy.
The Deputy Manager urged members to use their new knowledge and collective voice for change.
“Water Voices United is a transformative four-year project, co-funded by the European Union and Danish People’s Aid and spearheaded by SNV in partnership with the NGO WASH Forum. This initiative aims to enhance the capabilities and synergies among WASH Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Zambia. By fostering the CSOs role in WASH governance, the project supports the Zambian Government’s efforts towards the progressive realization of the Human Right to Water and Sanitation. Together, we are not just aiming for change; we’re ensuring a sustainable and equitable future where access to clean water and safe sanitation becomes a reality for all,” he said.
