Democratic Union (DU) president Ackim Anthony Njobvu has appealed to the christian community to preach love and unity ahead of next year’s general elections.
Addressing congregants during Sunday mass at St. Paul’s Catholic church, Chongwe district, Njobvu stated the current mood in the country calls for unity in view of former President Edgar Lungu’s death that has caused tension in recent weeks.
Lungu is yet to be laid to rest weeks after his reported death from neighboring South Africa.
The tussle between his family and government has been described by some sections of society as unchristian especially that Zambia is known to be a Christian nation.
A devoted catholic christian himself, the opposition leader that has continued promoting messages of love and national unity in the country asked congregants to pray for political leaders so that peace prevails.
“We must all be united especially during this period where we are still mourning our former President. Pray for leaders so that peace continues to prevail in our country,” he said.
Congregants were also reminded to find their purpose in life and what they can do for their country individually and collectively.
Meanwhile, Njobvu took the opportunity to explain DU’s vision for the Zambia, further highlighting that the opposition party was inspired by the holy spirit and love, and that the leadership of the DU desires to lead Zambians in a honesty and different way.
