Nkandu knocks out opponent
It was a jam-packed weekend as boxers and spectators thronged the OYDC Zambia to witness the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge.
Zambian boxer Felistus Nkandu who recently participated at the AFBC African Boxing Championship in Mozambique and came back home with gold knocked out her opponent Maureen Tembo from Livingston Boxing in the 60kg weight category on Saturday 15 October 2022. Nkandu made sure that she felt her punches such that she got knocked out in the second round.
And Maureen Tembo attributed her loss to getting tired stating that her rival was fast when it came to throwing punches. Meanwhile, Nkandu who also participated at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games said she has the skill in the ring adding that she does not give her opponents a chance to fight back. After being declared winner jubilation was characterized at the OYDC Zambia as spectators lifted Nkandu as a sign of respect.
In another fight, celebrated fighter Juliana Kasonka from Red Arrows beat her opponent Mary Mhango of Exodus Boxing club in a 5-0 unanimous decision. Kasonka said the boxing ring is her playing ground and can not give chance to opponents to defeat her.
Over 30 bouts engaging athletes from different clubs were conducted at the centre as they prepare for the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge grand finale at the end of November.
And other sports codes which took place under the Teulings league at the centre include rugby and taekwondo.
