A 32-YEAR-OLD woman caring for her 59-year-old sick father has raised concern after some men allegedly asked her for sex in exchange for helping with her father’s medical bills.
The daughter, Mara Moyo, says the trouble began after she posted an appeal on Facebook asking for financial support to take her father for a series of vital medical procedures before he could finally have a vagus nerve stimulator implant procedure in the United States and included her contact numbers so well-wishers could reach her directly.
Mara says that instead of receiving genuine help, several men began calling her with hidden intentions.
According to her, some of these men even travelled from Lusaka to Livingstone, pretending they wanted to donate towards her father’s medical expenses but when they arrived, they allegedly invited her to hotels and asked her to spend the night with them before offering any help.
She says one man promised a trip to Dubai, another suggested a holiday in South Africa, and many others sent messages in her inbox, all linking their “donations” to sex.
Mara describes this behaviour as shameful, cruel and heartbreaking, especially at a time when her father is lying critically ill at home.
She says she will never trade her dignity for money, stating clearly, “I am not for sale.”
Mara adds that her family has also been hurt by people who promise to donate and then disappear, causing them to delay arrangements for her father’s travel.
She has warned those sending abusive comments on her page that online harassment is an offence under the Cyber Security Act of 2025.
Mara says the family is still appealing for genuine support from well-meaning Zambians as her father’s condition continues to worsen.
