An 81-year-old man from Chief Chitoshi area in Lunte District, Northern Province, has been murdered by his biological son and grandson for allegedly practising witchcraft.
Northern Province Police Commanding Officer Lucky Munkondya confirmed the development in a telephone interview with ZANIS.
Munkondya explained that Constantino Mutale was murdered on Thursday by his biological son, Chrispin Mutale, and grandson, Alfred Chongo, both of Longwani village, after suspecting him of practising witchcraft.
The incident was reported to Lunte police yesterday by the deceased’s wife, Violet Mutale.
Munkondya stated that the victim sustained a swollen neck and bruises on the forehead.
The commanding officer mentioned that kicks and fists were allegedly used in the act, which occurred in full view of his 71-year-old wife.
Brief facts indicate that the deceased was suspected to be a wizard and was believed to be behind the recent death of his biological son, Daniel Mutale.
The body of the deceased has been deposited in the Luwingu District hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the assailants, and a docket has been opened.
