Peace scientist Tom Njovu has strongly condemned the assault of a police officer in Ndola, describing the incident as unfortunate and unacceptable.

Mr. Njovu said it was wrong for the named Ndola resident to resort to physical confrontation with a police officer who was on duty at the time of the incident.

He emphasised that law enforcement officers are legally mandated to maintain peace, order, and public safety, and should be allowed to carry out their responsibilities without interference or violence.

Mr. Njovu noted that while members of the public may at times feel aggrieved by the conduct of certain officers, taking the law into their own hands only worsens the situation and undermines the rule of law.

In a statement released to the public, Mr. Njovu urged citizens to follow laid-down procedures when lodging complaints against police officers, rather than engaging in acts of violence.

Mr. Njovu has further called for calm and mutual respect between law enforcement officers and the public in order to promote peace and harmony in society.
