Two pilots have cheated death after a privately operated aircraft developed a fault mid-flight and was forced into an emergency landing in Mumbwa District.

The Cessna 206 aircraft, registration number 9J-BDA, was travelling to Lusaka from Chunga Camp in Kafue National Park when it reportedly experienced a mechanical problem while in the air.

The incident happened on April 6, 2026, around 16:40 hours, forcing the pilots to make a quick decision that likely saved their lives.

The aircraft was eventually brought down in the Muchabi area near Blue Lagoon, Nangoma, in what has been described as a tense but successful forced landing.

Miraculously, both pilots survived without any injuries. However, they were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure for a full medical check-up.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said a multidisciplinary investigation has been launched to establish what exactly caused the aircraft fault.

Mr. Chilabi further stated that the aircraft remains grounded in the Muchabi area as investigations continue.

The incident has sparked public attention, with many praising the pilots’ quick thinking and professionalism for safely landing the aircraft and avoiding what could have been a deadly tragedy.
