POLICE in Western Province have arrested five teachers from Senanga Day Secondary School, including the headteacher, for assaulting a 15-year-old child.
The arrest follows, a widely shared video recorded by one of the teachers at Senanga Day Secondary School showing a pupil insulting them and the headmaster after he was punished for reportedly fighting them.
According to police, the boy’s father, Lungowe Mooka, 51, of Mwanambinyi East Plots area reported on March 19, 2026 that his son was assaulted by the teachers on March 16, 2026.
Western Province police commanding officer Rae Hamoonga, said in a statement that the victim sustained injuries, including a painful neck, pain on the left side of the ribs, backache and general body pains.
The suspects have been identified as headteacher Kaitwa Kamona, 51, and teachers Febian Mushoke, 49, Mubiana Milale, 48, Jere Simataa, 36, and Masialeti Kubindwa, 42.
Hamoonga said that the pupil was assaulted using fists and slaps, resulting in injuries including neck pain, rib pain, backache and general body pains.
“Police have since charged all five suspects with assault on a child, contrary to Section 248A of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia,” he said.
Hamoonga added that the suspects have been released on police bond and are expected to appear in court soon.
