Police have explained how events unfolded in the murder of 20-year-old motorcycle rider, Titus Silozi, who was found dead at a lodge in Nakonde on Wednesday.
According to a police report made available to Chete FM News by Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Dennis Moola, two male clients checked into the lodge at around 8:00 hours.
They approached the receptionist, to register, one of them opted to sign in later, claiming he needed to answer a call of nature, the other client remained at the reception.
After completing the registration process, the receptionist handed over the room key to the client who had returned from the restroom.
Around 10:00 hours, the receptionist handed over his duties to the next shift and departed.
Meanwhile, a cleaner,, began her rounds, cleaning the rooms.
At around 11:00 hours she went to clean the room occupied by the two clients.
She noticed a male person standing at the door, who informed her that the room was already clean.
However, she observed water running from the shower, prompting her to investigate further. She then went to clean another room.
Upon returning to room 309, she noticed the water was still running, she knocked on the door, but no one responded.
She alerted the security guard, who used a ladder to peer through the window and discovered Silozi’s lifeless body.
Silozi’s body was found with his hands and legs tied with blue nylon ropes and his mouth gagged with white cloth, strangulation marks were visible on his neck, and a scattered rubbish bin suggested a struggle had occurred.
His motorcycle, a black Lion King, was recovered outside the lodge’s gate.
The police have taken the motorcycle into custody and are holding it as evidence.
