Police gun down 3 criminals in Lusaka

The Zambia Police has gunned down three armed criminals in Lusaka’s Chunga compound.

Police Spokesperson Rea Hamoonga, told #Mwebantu in a statement, that this was after the police intercepted five criminals who opened fire after being challenged by officers.

Mr Hammonga explained that an exchange of fire ensued and regrettably three criminals lost their lives.

Mr Hamoonga narrated that the police conducted an intelligence led operation and managed to forestall an aggravated robbery targeted at a named company in Lusaka’s ten miles area.

He said the incident occurred on 30th November 2021 at around 07:30 hours, in Chunga compound when five suspected criminals armed with one AK 47 Rifle and two pistols who on 23rd November 2021 shot at a motor vehicle Hino light truck registration number BAR 7431 which was being driven by Alex Ngo’mbo were spotted in Chunga compound.

Mr Hamoonga further said police dispatched a patrol team to the area and upon arrival at the scene of the incident they found five men who fitted the description of the purported criminals and police fired several warning shots, unfortunately, the criminals fired back at the officers and an exchange of fire ensued.

“Regrettably, during the exchange of fire three criminals were shot at while two managed to escape. Three fire arms have been recovered and a manhunt has been launched,” Mr Hamoonga narrated.

“The bodies of the three deceased have been deposited in the University Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and burial,”.

He has since warned all those that are engaging in criminal activities that the Zambia Police Service stands ready to defend the good orderliness throughout the Republic by using all legal means at its disposal to defend the law-abiding citizenry.

“To those with criminal intentions we want to remind them that crime does not pay”, Mr Hamoonga emphasized.

“We are calling on the general public to partner with us as we get rid of these criminal elements in our society by reporting them to our nearest police stations or our police detectives,”.

And in another development, police recorded a report of Murder and Aggravated Robbery in which Tasmania Ngandu aged 38 of unmarked house number in Chainda Compound Lusaka Township was shot dead by unknown criminals who later went away with his Toyota Corolla grey in colour registration Number BAJ 3637 and an undisclosed amount of money.

Mr Hamoonga said the incident occurred on 29th November, 2021 at around 23:15 hours when the deceased was about to enter his yard.

He added that after being shot the deceased sustained fatal gunshot wounds on the back and left leg. And his body has since been deposited in University Teaching Hospital Mortuary awaiting Postmortem and burial.

Mr Hamoonga said the motor vehicle was later found abandoned in Mtendere East on 30th November,2021 around 08:00 hours.
