Police identify Lusaka youth killed in hit and run, nab driver

POLICE have apprehended a Lusaka man who is believed to have bashed 23-year-old Shadreck Chalwe, yesterday leaving him lifeless on Great East Road.

The incident occurred around 10:00 hours along the busy Great East Road, near the Arcades Flyover Bridge.

Chalwe, a resident of New Ng’ombe Compound, was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a speeding Toyota Mark X.

According to the police, the driver, 27-year-old Kambole Mboyonga, was heading west when the collision occurred.

The impact caused severe damage to the vehicle, including a broken side mirror, cracked windscreen, and damage to the fender and headlamp.
Chalwe sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the incident revealing that the victim’s body was taken to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
Following the accident, authorities apprehended Mboyonga.

He is currently detained and faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving.

Hamoonga said the vehicle involved in the accident has been impounded at Manda Hill Police Station for further investigations.

The Zambia Police Service called for increased vigilance and strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of life on Zambian roads.
